About my page...
Hobbies are activities or interests that we can undertake for pleasure or relaxation, usually in our spare time. I have several. It's not that I have a lot of spare time but I find myself interested in a number of different things. The three things that I like doing the most can be done at the same time: Amateur radio, photography, and off road adventure.
Amateur Radio
I was first licensed in 1966 while still in high school. After joining the Navy shortly after that, I operated a number of military stations including WA4ECY in Pensacola, Florida, KL7AIZ in Adak, Alaska, and even as a VQ9 in Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.
I just recently got back into the hobby after being away for about 30 years. I operate CW, SSB and sometimes the digital modes. My main
radio is a Flex 3000 software defined radio.
Photography
I shoot primarily with a Canon 50D. My photographic interests are nature photography, macros, and freelance photojournalism. Many of my shots of desert creatures come from my trips into the Sonoran desert where I live.
Off Road
I can travel all the way from my home to the Mexican border, about 75 miles, without ever touching pavement. The Sonoran desert is full of trails that lead to abandoned mines, ghost towns, Indian ruins and petroglyphs, and many other things that make for great adventure.
