Welcome to w6sdm.net

Welcome to the new, and hopefully improved, w6sdm.net web site. It is here that I combine discuss and display three of the things that I really enjoy: Amateur radio, photography, and off road exploration. It also gives me the chance to delve into some other things that interest me: Typography and graphic design. This is much like the convergence of multiple interests.

I have divided the site into three sections. There is the home site, which you are reading now. In addition, I am putting up a page to display the readout from an amateur weather monitoring station that is located at my home in Hidden Valley, Arizona. The location is remote enough that it provides NOAA with accurate measurements from an area where monitoring would not normally be done.

There is also a blog, which is powered by WordPress - a remarkable, free program that has allowed many people to express themselves in elegance online without becoming HTML, CSS, or PhP programmers. There's also a forum to allow readers to contribute their ideas. The forum uses Simple Machines framework, another free program that powers many forums across the Internet. I guess the moral to the story of free programs is that if you're passionate about something, you don't have to collect money in order to profit from it.

Don't worry, I'm working on it...

Depending on when you visit the site, you're going to find buttons that don't do anything (yet), links that don't work, and Loerm Ipsum text to fill in as a placeholder. I guess I could have grabbed one of those graphics of an "under construction" sight but I am really trying to avoid the kitch that litters the Internet. As I get a little time, I will do some of the coding, posting, troubleshooting, and testing that is required to make a web site work. I am using Adobe Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Fireworks to put things together.

All of the photography and graphics on this site are mine unless otherwise noted.
